After sending the manuscript off to my publisher, I couldn't get Rose's story about her relationship with Harry out of my head. (Part 10-The Senior Center).

When I first read her story, I thought for sure she was going in a different direction. I decided to write my own alternative to her story.

I didn't have an opportunity to meet that freshman from Boston because in the sauna at the women's athletic complex I ran into Margaret VanBuskirk. Marge's husband Harry was the president of the basketball booster club, and one of the perks was that Marge could use the women's facility. We'd been friends a long time, but I hadn't seen her much since my husband's death.

Harry owned a construction company which did multi-million-dollar projects all across the Midwest. Marge owned a commercial real estate company which managed hundreds of properties.

We had the sauna to ourselves. Both of us wrapped in a towel from chest to thighs. Marge leaned close to me and whispered, "the leadership of the booster club is a little concerned with your method of providing some of the basketball players with morale."
