Chapter 14: Uninvited Guests

The day after attending the Door County Fair I contacted my agent and told him I'd accept the part in the series tentatively entitled Buffalo. It was named after the town where the series would take place in Buffalo, Minnesota, a town of a little more than 15,000 people at the center of three lakes. I said I'd take the part and he told me they anticipated to start shooting in November on site. Not the best time to be in Minnesota but I figured I could handle it being a Wisconsin gal and all.

My attorney got an emailed copy of the contract. We tweaked it a little and I signed it. A day later I was officially going to play Lucille "Lucy" Carter, a childless divorcee who moves to a small town about fifty miles northwest of Minneapolis when her dead aunt leaves her house to her in her will. Strapped for cash, Lucy decides to live there and gets a job as a waitress at a local bar. I thought the character's name was ironic since I'm Desi, sharing a name with Lucille Ball's Cuban husband.

After getting the part, I did a Zoom interview with TMZ and a phone interview with a writer at Rolling Stone magazine. Prior to that I discussed the interviews with my publicist Connie Druthers who always encouraged me to play the part of the perfect interviewee, who says all the right things yet remains engaging and charming.
