My story about The Adventures of an American Heiress, got me to thinking about Wanda Miles (not her real name) who told me this story years ago.

Madam Fonteneau's Finishing School for Girls was founded shortly after the French Revolution. It was located on an estate in southern France, originally owned by one of Louis XVI's counselors, who lost his head when Louis and Marie Antoinette lost theirs.

Shortly after that unfortunate incident, Madam Francine Fonteneau acquired it, and made it into a girls school.

Not just any girls school. Girls from the most prominent and wealthiest families in the world were invited when the girl reached puberty. No one ever heard of anyone declining an invitation.

At any given time there were no more than one hundred girls in the school, and they were known as The Hundred, even if sometimes there were only ninety or so.

From puberty until age eighteen, the academics were rigid. No class had more than ten students. However, no one was ever dismissed for academic reasons. Girls who were having difficulty with their studies were assigned tutors and faculty members often worked one-on-one with those students. ...
