A few Sundays ago, everyone's world on our block got turned upside down. It was a warm and beautiful Sunday morning and I had just gotten back from running a few errands. I had put everything away and was helping my wife tidy up the house when a buddy of mine sent me a text message sent telling me that he was outside watering his lawn and heard a bunch of fire engines headed in the direction of my area. I hadn't heard anything because I had the TV on but for some reason, decided to go outside and look around to see if I saw any smoke or fire trucks in the area. As I walked down my driveway, I was shocked to see two firetrucks about halfway down the block, with firefighters running around pulling hoses. I then looked a bit further and saw smoke coming from just around the corner. I quickly began walking down the block to see what was going on and was shocked as I got closer to the corner and could see two houses on fire. They were side-by-side and were burning really badly. In front of them was several other firetrucks with firefighters setting up. It was a chaotic scene that had just began to unfold. I quickly ran back to the house to tell my wife what was going on, and as I did, I noticed my neighbor across the street, running out of his house. He was a firefighter who happened to be off duty that day, but quickly sprang into action to help his colleagues. As he ran down the street, his wife Patty came running out the door as well.
