Luke sat at a table near the dance floor, mesmerized, and watched Aurora sway to the music.

She was absolutely magnificent, and not in the ‘heavily-made-up, girl-trying- to-attract-men,' way. She embodied a dark, mysterious allure, knowing that men were watching her, caring not, and paying no mind to anyone around her.

She was here, dancing in the bar, but she was a million miles away, lost to the music and lyrics. Surrounded by a crowd of friends, she swayed with eyes closed, singing along, but utterly lost in a world of her own.

Luke envied that, and he wanted to possess not just her, but her ability to disappear and stand out all at once. He thought, What an incredible talent, to achieve that kind of peace in a crowded room.

He imagined what she would be like as a lover, with that kind of focus, and the picture nearly knocked him to his knees.

Every man in the bar stared hungrily, too fearful to make a move. Aurora was completely oblivious. She'd created a vacuum where no one and nothing could touch her.

Jerold entered The Stockyard and sat across the table from him. Following the line of his stare straight to Aurora, he said, "Give it up, friend. She's a wild horse. Let her run. That girl is all gas and no brakes. Her wheels are already screeching in the parking lot."

"You're probably right, Jerold, but I can't tear my eyes from her."

"Have you made a move yet?"

"No. Not yet."

"If you don't, I'm going to."

Luke wasn't going to risk letting Jerold beat him to her.

He strode through the crowd, deliberately making his way onto the dance floor, and lifted her off her feet. He dragged her full length against him, and kissed her breathless.

When they came up for air, her eyes were wide with alarm, and smoldering sexual heat, and she said, "Since we're already intimately acquainted, my name's Aurora. And you are?"

He made no move to set her back on her feet, and a slow smile slid across his lips. He answered, "Luke Turner at your service."

"Do you have a girlfriend, Luke?"

"No. Do you have a boyfriend?"

"No."

Luke growled, "Good. You do now. Shut up and kiss me, Aurora." And he kissed her hard, not caring how many people were watching, knowing he wasn't going to let her out of his sight for the rest of the night.

They spent the evening walking at Hudson Beach, not breaking eye contact, and getting to know each other. The attraction was instant, electric, and urgent. Neither of them wanted to say good night.

Finally, Luke asked the question he'd been dying to know, "What are you thinking about when you're swaying like that on the dance floor?"

"Swaying like what," she queried, with one eyebrow cocked, challenging him.

"You know, completely lost, utterly at peace."

"Nothing, actually," she smiled softly, "I let the music claim me like a lover. I go where it takes me. It's an escape."
