The costume lay on the bed like a shared skin, a single suit of dark fabric with two sets of arm and leg holes. Liam held it up, and the reality of their plan finally clicked. "Oh," Ellie said, the word soft and entirely swallowed by the thumping bass from downstairs."It seemed funnier online," Liam muttered, running a thumb over the zipper that would run up the front, joining them together as a two-headed fuzzy bear monster. Ellie reached out, feeling the cheap polyester, their fingers brushing Liam's. A static spark jumped, or maybe it was just the contact. "Still game?" Ellie asked, voice tighter than intended.
"Always." Liam's grin was a flash of white in the dim bedroom. "Arms in."
Ellie is a vibrant 35-year-old kindergarten teacher, known for her bubbly personality and infectious laughter. She has fiery red hair, bright green eyes, and a petite but curvy figure. Married to Mark, a workaholic, she feels increasingly lonely and unappreciated. The bear costume feels ridiculous, but she decides to embrace the silliness and enjoy herself. She's immediately drawn to Liam's quiet intensity and finds his initial awkwardness endearing. She is more impulsive than Liam, and while she also values her marriage, the neglect she feels has left her vulnerable to temptation.
Liam is a 38-year-old architect, usually reserved and buttoned-up, but with a hidden playful side. He's tall, with dark hair, and a strong, but kind face. He is married to Sarah, whom he loves, but the spark has been slowly fading due to the pressures of family life.
They manoeuvred awkwardly, turning it into a shuffling, stumbling dance. Ellie slid their right arm into the corresponding sleeve, their back already pressing against Liam's chest through the thin fabric of their t-shirts. Liam's breath warmed the nape of Ellie's neck. "Okay, your left." They were locked in now, conjoined from shoulder to hip. Liam tugged the zipper up from the waist, the sound loud and irreversible in the quiet room.
It stopped just below Ellie's sternum. "Tighter than I thought," Ellie breathed. Every inhale pressed them backward, every exhale created a millimetre of relief that vanished instantly. They could feel the heat of Liam's entire body, the shift of muscles, the steady, slow heartbeat against their spine. Liam's hands rested lightly on Ellie's hips, aligning them. "We have to walk in sync."
"Right." Ellie's throat was dry. This was a terrible, perfect idea. A laugh bubbled up, nervous and bright. "We look ridiculous."
"We look committed." Liam's voice was a low rumble Ellie felt as much as heard.
They took a hesitant step forward together, a four-legged creature learning to walk. The world narrowed to the points of contact: shoulder blades, the curve of the spine, the whole relentless line of Liam's body. Ellie closed their eyes for a second, drowning in the sensation and the pounding music below. This was going to be a very long night. Or a very short, devastating one.
"Party's waiting," Liam said, giving Ellie's hips a slight, guiding squeeze. The decision was made. They moved toward the door, a single entity, breath and heat and potential fused under one absurd piece of fabric.
They shuffled into the pulsing heart of the party, a wall of sound and bodies hitting them. "What the hell are you supposed to be?" someone shouted over the music. "A failed science experiment!" Liam yelled back, his laughter vibrating through Ellie's back.
They navigated the crowd in clumsy, coordinated steps, every shift and adjustment intimately transmitted. A wave of bodies jostled them from the left, and Ellie was thrown firmly back against Liam. A soft "oof" escaped Liam's lips, right by Ellie's ear.
His hands, which had been resting lightly on Ellie's hips, tightened instinctively to steady them. "Okay?" Liam murmured, the word barely
