Over the next three years, there were a number of guys. None from my town and no cops.

On occasion, there were lawyers, but mostly there were guys I met in bars. As you might suspect, I ran into a lot of criminals. No, I didn't date them. That would be stupid.

We met when I was assigned to pick up a suspect who had been wounded in a shoot-out with a couple of my fellow officers.

Dr. Roman explained that every other day a nurse would visit the jail and check on the suspect's wounds. They weren't life-threatening, but there was a slim chance of infection.

To my surprise, ten days later, Dr. Roman himself stopped into to examine the prisoner. "Detective Mo, he's doing fine, but I had an ulterior motive. How about dinner Friday night?"
