Part 2 – The Action Plan Robyn parked her car in the far corner of the hotel car park. It was a hotel on a roundabout out of the town where she had agreed to meet Mike Allsopp the new CEO of Hot Bikes National. She did not want to be detected so she had arrived well ahead of the agreed time for lunch. She was posing as a journalist for Bike Trade with the carrot of a feature on Mike. What she really wanted was evidence of the private dinners that ImCar held which she knew Mike used to attend. She needed to be certain that these dinners were actually a front for a sort of prostitution operation that Claire Imray, wife of David Imray, the owner of Imcar, thought her husband was operating to increase sales.
She walked back across the car park and into the large open reception area. Stopped and assessed the layout. The reception area had many low coffee tables, the layout of a hotel that made good money from the coffee and drinks consumed at small table top business meetings. To the right was the greeters deask at the entrance to the dinning area. The coffee area was quite busy, but she was able to find a table over in the corner, not in the main sight line for anyone entering. She sat down and put her small handbag on the table. After dressing up to impress for her initial meeting with Claire, today she had decided that although she had to look attractive to her interviewee, she needed to keep something in reserve should she need to up the stakes to get the evidence she needed.
Her long auburn hair was pulled back into a pony tail to off-set the smart business suit and white blouse. Neither garment hung tight around her figure which was her preferred style. Her make-up was muted not wanting to put emphasis on her big green “come to bed” eyes which she knew always created attention.
Robyn waved away the offer of coffee from the waitress saying she was waiting for her lunch partner to arrive and sat back phone in hand to watch the activity. This was all part of her professional approach, always arrive well ahead of time, understand the layout and assess her target before engaging.
As she sat there she smiled to herself. She knew this type of hotel well, business clientele in the week, discounted weekend deals. Good money from the coffee and lunches. Whilst she waited, she also observed it was also a good hotel for discreet hook-ups too. Couples checking in without luggage, holding hands and hurrying to the rooms once they had the key. Illicit liaisons her bread and butter income!
After a few minutes she identified who she thought was Mike Allsopp entering. Claire was right he was handsome and had a fit body, dressed in an open neck shirt, jacket and chinos. He headed for the dining area, stopping at the entrance to engage the greeter, who looked down her list and then led him to a table in the centre of the room, after a short exchange they moved to a table in a more discrete position.
Robyn thought the choice interesting but not surprising. She could see the table through the open partition between the bar and restaurant and continued to observe him for a few minutes, watching him take out his phone. She had made the appointment though his PA after an initial email exchange. He had suggested they meet for lunch at this location which was a good 20 miles from his office. As always she used an alias through an email server set up for just this type of untraceable communication. She was Jenny Robinson a freelance journalist contracted by Bike Trade to write a piece profiling the new CEO of Hot Bikes National or HBN as it now positioned itself to a knowledgeable customer base.
Sure that this was Mike Allsopp, Robyn picked up her bag and approached
