Chapter Twelve

Kay's heart pounded while she watched Benjy unlock the cabin door. She wasn't sure whether the excitement she was feeling because she was alone with him, or because she was contemplating buying the lovely house they were about to enter. When the young man got the door unlocked, he held it open for her and she walked inside and looked around.

The interior of the home -- it was far more than a cabin -- was as every bit as lovely as the exterior. They'd entered a large living room. Off to her right, Kay could see the dining room, and beyond that, the kitchen. The house was spacious and furnished very comfortably. Colorful oval braided rugs covered a floor of gleaming wide pine boards in both the living room and dining room. The living room was furnished with a dark red velvet recliner, a pale gray sofa, and an over-stuffed chair covered with the same material as the recliner. There were white mini-blinds in the windows, which were also adorned with lace curtains. Along one wall was a huge fieldstone fireplace. The opposite wall was covered with a large bookcase that, in addition to a tremendous number of books, contained an entertainment center that had a TV and stereo. ...
