I thought and thought about the whole scenario as I went home. I wracked my brains, I prayed and prayed but I could not find an answer or a way out for myself from the present scenario. I decided, in the short run, to avoid going to the University for a few days. I naively believed that I would think of something in the meanwhile. Escapism, to me, was the only solution at that time.

And it went well during those days. I didn’t want to worry my parents and I went out dutifully each morning, roaming around, idling my time away and coming back each evening presumably from the varsity. I was losing on my studies but I was saving on my ass.

One day as I came back, my father told me that Qasim had rung up and he was inquiring about me. Dad was a bit quizzical, as he believed I was going to the varsity regularly. I managed to evade him by saying that I had not come across Qasim in the last few days.

Another couple of days passed and I received another message from Qasim. This time he said he wanted to talk to me urgently about the movie we were planning to see together. My heart sank. It was pure intimidation. I took the phone to my room and dialed the hostel. Qasim came on line immediately. He was obviously waiting for my call and he was fairly angry. He abused me and asked me why I had not called and where was I for the last one week?
