Danny and Melissa had never really spoken at school. They moved in different circles and although they had mutual friends, they had never really spoken to each other until this afternoon.

Their college had had a social outing to the local pub to enjoy a barbecue and some traditional pub games in the summer weather. The event had been very well attended and everyone had got on brilliantly. In fact, people were getting on so well that when the pub garden closed in the early evening, a lot of them decided to continue their night at another local bar.

They stayed here drinking and playing pool until closing time. By now they had been drinking for 6 or 7 hours. Now Melissa was only small, just over 5 foot, and the effect of the alcohol was beginning to take it's toll on her. She was becoming more and more flirtatious and adventurous. Most of the boys had gone by now, they lived further out of town and had had to leave early.

Danny offered to walk Melissa home as she lived just up the hill from him and the other girls were going the other way. They set off arm in arm, more to keep Melissa upright than to suggest the romantic events that were to follow.
