This is the first chapter of the novelette that follows a week in the life of Cheryl Bachman, star sales agent for MEDco, an established West Coast medical equipment distributor. Cheryl is a legendary deal closer, with a secret weapon that usually gets her clients to buy her wares.....

Cheryl sat at her desk carefully filling out the order blank on her computer screen. At the top of her craft in medical equipment sales, she knew she was very close to winning the incentive prize for the quarter, a week's trip to Honolulu to meet her compatriots in the industry. This order might do it, she thought as she filled in the blanks on the screen, and if not, her productivity bonus would be maxed again this month anyway.

As she completed the last few spaces, she noticed the email icon start to blink. Posting the order, she called up the email, which turned out to be from John Stanley, her sales manager. John said simply "good news, come see me" in his usual brief style, and Cheryl logged off, stood up and stretched her lanky 5'10" frame, then reached over and touched her palms to the carpet to complete the stretch. There weren't 3 other women and no men in the office who were as limber as she was, but she knew that she had to keep stretching out all the time to stay that way.

Cheryl picked up her suit jacket and slipped it on over the ivory silk ...
