THE FISHING TRIP

I've been an avid angler since childhood, so when five of my buddies proposed that we build a cabin next to a fishing hole, I gave the project my whole-hearted support. We found the perfect plot on the banks of a crystal-clear lake in the rolling hills of northern Georgia. We were able to buy it for a song because it was nearly impossible to reach by vehicle.

We spent the first two months of the project clearing a crude trail to the site. Once we were able to reach it in a four-wheel drive pickup truck, we hauled in building materials and went to work. Jerry and Walt had had extensive experience in construction so they headed up the project. Tom, Henry, Bruce and I provided the muscle.

Over a period of three or four months, our little hideaway evolved into a thing of beauty. The large main room featured a rough-hewn fireplace that we were especially proud of. Two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a nearby privy completed the layout. One bedroom was outfitted with six bunks and the other one had a single bed. The plan was for us to take turns using the private room.
