Notes to Paradise

Jo turned carefully into her drive, always concentrating on the path before her. She had just passed her test and so took her time when performing any difficult manoeuvres.

She stopped the engine, gathered her thoughts and opened the car door allowing a cool, refreshing summer breeze to blow across her face. It was a cool dusk. Welcoming and inviting. She would have taken more time to enjoy it had she not been in such a rush to get inside. Paul would be waiting to gather her up in his arms and make the worries of the world melt away.

Though on turning the key in the door she received no such welcome. The house was dark, cold and uninviting. Turing on the hall light she ventured further feeling nothing but trepidation.

“Paul?” She searched for reassurance; but none was to be found.
