Part 2 - Chapters 6 through 10 and Epilogue

CHAPTER SIX - Friday morning

Friday morning I woke up before Sheila. I didn't want to waken her, so I lay next to her watching her sleep. As I gazed at her, I was once again struck by how innocent and lovely she looked, and felt overwhelmed by the ecstasy I'd shared with her the past few days. What would happen next? What kind of future did we have? I was painfully aware of the answer, and it didn't thrill me. I knew that, as wonderful as this interlude she and I were sharing was, it would have to come to an end. When that happened, I'd have return to my life, and she would return to hers. There was no future for us, and that saddened me. I wondered if, in the end, it might not have been better if this had never happened. Both of our lives had been changed irrevocably, and I was afraid that the change was not for the best.

Sheila stirred, opened her eyes, looked at me, and smiled. "Hi," she said softly.
