Brett's funeral was held three days after his life ended. Scott went to the services alone. Chris had offered to go with him, but he refused the offer. He even refused his sister Diana's offer to go with him as well. Scott told them both, this was one more thing he had to do by himself, if he ever truly was going to put the past behind him. They both reluctantly agreed. Even his boss at work, had granted him some time off to try and get things back together. Scott was happy by the support he had from his friends and family.

When the service was over, Scott hugged Rita and told her how sorry he was for her loss. She hugged him back and whispered to him, something Scott had been longing to hear. Rita told her that Brett loved him very much, but he could sense that Scott truly did love Chris, and Brett wanted the two of them to be happy together. Scott hugged her tightly. He could feel the tears beginning to form again. He released her, and said good-bye, and then walked away.
