Saturday, Alone With the Girls

What I dread most on a Saturday morning is a phone call waking us up from a restful sleep. My wife and I work long hard hours during the week. Weekends are our chance to recharge our batteries. Since neither one of us are morning people, we relish our Saturdays and Sundays when we can sleep in late and lounge around to our heart’s content.

Lately, it seems, our quiet weekend mornings keep getting interrupted. This past Saturday was no exception. It was 7:45 a.m. and the phone is ringing loudly. Lisa answers and finds out that the assistant manager that covers her department on the weekend is not going to make it in today. she manages a prominent retail clothing outlet in our area. Normally there is another assistant manager that would fill in on the weekend, in a case like this. But this weekend she is at a wedding, out of state, and it falls on my wife to fill in for the day.

Lisa jumps in the shower, dresses, and is out the door in a flash to make it to the store in time to open up. I try to settle back into sleep mode. 10 minutes later, the phone rings again. It’s Lisa calling, from the car, to inform me that she has completely forgotten that her granddaughter and a friend are coming over for the day to swim and sunbathe.
