“Oh, Ellen, you are going to love it”, Pam gushed, “besides, you need the break, everything has been so stressful for you lately”. “I go at least once a month and I always come home refreshed.

She was right, I did need the break, and a day at the spa was a great gift for my birthday. Pam could afford to do things like that, since she married Paul she had more than a few bucks. It was always amazing to me how much she adjusted to her new life and spent money like it was a natural thing to do. It wasn’t that we didn’t have money, we live very well, but Marc and I just choose to spend wisely and dropping a wad of cash on a day at the spa seemed, well frivolous. Still, life had been hectic and work was a hassle, the thought of taking a day for just myself sounded really good. I work hard I rationalized, and I deserved it.
