It was one of those heavily chlorinated pools. You know the kind -- where the heat radiates from the surface of the water and the room is murky and damp all the time. And the scent. The scent of chlorine and pesticides for the plants and sweat. One of those deep, heady smells that turns you on. Well, at least it turned me on.

I turned to Sara -- er, Anna -- and she smiled back at me, her eyes twinkling. I loved her at that moment. This total, complete stranger who had overtaken me -- and taken me. I forgot that I had another life outside of the hotel and suddenly found myself completely at ease with the idea of spending the rest of my life with Anna. I decided right then and there not to feel guilt, not to feel remorse or sadness this weekend at all.

"What's that all about?" she asked me, cocking her head to one side to examine me.

"Nothing," I told her. "Nothing at all. I'm just just glad to be here, that's all." ...
