I'm pleased to bring you EroticStories 25th Interview! This time I chose Poldyvirag to bug with all my questions. Poldyvirag is on the top best scoring author's list with a average vote of 9.40 as well as being on the top favorite's list. Read on to learn more about him.

Tell us about you:

Question: First tell us something about yourself, like name, age, and some other things we would like to know about you...Let’s call it a short bio.

Poldyvirag: Everyone who knows me on ES knows me as Poldy. I’m in my mid-thirties, live in Atlanta. I was born and raised in the South but spent part of my twenties living in NYC and Europe. I enjoy the mountains and the beach. I like living where I can spend a weekend either place. I read a lot and enjoy several kinds of music. I’m not much into the club scene any more. When I go out, it’s usually to movies, a concert, or a Braves or Falcons game. I’m single but committed.

Question: What are you wearing right now?

Poldyvirag: A pair of tattered denims and a tee shirt that reads: “And thou shalt have dominion over all the animals except, of course, the cats.” This is pretty much my daily uniform only the message on the tee shirt changes.

Question: Does your spouse or significant other know you write, and if so, what does he/she think?

Poldyvirag: She not only reads, she writes. I share closet space (90-10) with Ms. Tees, who posted her first stories on ES this past year. She reads everything I write. She is enormously supportive.

Question: Is it difficult for you to keep your writing life separate from your professional life?

Poldyvirag: Writing is part of my professional life. I’m fortunate in that I get to spend giant chunks of my day writing. The flip side of that is that I don’t have any excuse for not writing.

Question: How did you come up with your ES nickname?

Poldyvirag: I’m a James Joyce fan. In his novel, Ulysses, the protagonist is named Leopold Bloom, known to his wife and friends as Poldy. At one point in the novel, we learn that his father, before leaving the continent to move to Ireland, changed the family name to Bloom from … Virag. That’s about as obscure a literary allusion as you’ll find anywhere.

Question: What brought you to EroticStories.com? What made you want to stay and become a part of it?

Poldyvirag: I love the feedback system. Parts of it drive me crazy, but it’s still the best I know of. The feedback system appears to attract perceptive readers as well. I also like the graphic way the stories are displayed and described.

Question: What is your favorite part of your body? Why?

Poldyvirag: For brief periods of time, it’s my penis, of course. But most of the time it’s my eyes. Everything I am goes in there. Every minute of every day is a potential feast. I love reading, and how could you write without your eyes? Yeah, I know Milton did but you might have noticed that I’m not Milton.

Question: If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be and why?

Poldyvirag: I wish I could be more spontaneous and extroverted. I tend to be shy in crowds and with new people. I had a terrible time asking for dates in high school. At my 15th high school reunion, the girl I had a crush on told me that it really pissed her off that I never asked her out. Opportunities missed.

Question: Boxers v Briefs? / Panties v Thong?

Poldyvirag: I wear both boxers and briefs, but I prefer boxers for that open-air feeling. And thongs, hands down or hands somewhere. It’s hard to find a story of mine that doesn’t include some bare bottom groping.

Writing Habits:

Question: What do you like the most about writing erotic stories?

Poldyvirag: The opportunity to explore a life I could never live in reality. For one shining moment, I can be as talented a lover as Bad Brad in “The Teaser Pony.” I can mull over my dialogue and come up with the clever lines I never think of in real life. Any woman I want has an irresistible desire to hook up with me. And so on.

Question: How long have you been writing now? How did it all get started and what made you write your first story?

Poldyvirag: I’ve been writing stories since high school. So long ago that I can’t remember why. I went to a state university that had a rep for turning out good writers. I published for the first time in the student literary magazine. I got into a national magazine for the first time shortly after graduation it was a story I had originally written for a junior writing workshop. I wrote my first erotic story around 2000 or so, mainly because I discovered erotica on the internet in some Yahoo groups.

Question: What categories are most of your stories in? What kind would you never write?

Poldyvirag: I write mostly in Seduction and Adultery. I probably couldn’t write anything in the Domination category.

Question: Which of your stories is your personal favorite, the one you enjoyed writing the most, and/or the one holds the best memories or feelings for you?

Poldyvirag: I still love “The Teaser Pony.” Technically, it uses a parallel analogy, which is common in literary stories but rare in erotica. I wrote it from the female point of view, which was fun. The petting and foreplay build-up was a turn-on to me, as was the description of the intercourse and orgasms. Also, I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for the poor teaser pony, as he is used in thoroughbred breeding. I think most males can relate to him at some point in their lives. If you’re not familiar with how the teaser pony is used, you need to read the story for that alone, even if you don’t like the human sex.

Question: Have you ever gotten so turned on while writing that you had to stop to masturbate? What story was it?

Poldyvirag: Absolutely. During the writing of “Sue’s Complaint,” I lost 90% of my vision. Temporarily.

Question: Do you write from fantasy or true stories or a combination of both? Please explain or give an example.

Poldyvirag: Combination. Oddly enough, a couple of stories have been sparked by a sexual opportunity missed when I was 25. A very desirable but married woman put a move on me and I didn’t pick it up and go with it. It’s like I’ve been trying to rewrite history ever since, creating fantasies to “make it right.”

Question: Are the characters in your story based on real people, did you make them up, or are they a combination of both?

Poldyvirag: Again, a combination of both. Last week in a mall I saw a cute 20ish girl wearing denim short shorts who had the most touchable legs I’ve ever seen in my life. I suspect she’ll work herself into a “what if” story one of these days.

Question: What parts of "Yourself" do you put into your characters?

Poldyvirag: I am a foreplay freak. I eat it up, so to speak. I could enjoy petting forever. At a certain point, foreplay turns into an ecstatic form of tease. I think all of my better stories have that. All of my better sex has that.

Question: : If there was one trait you could take from one of your characters in your stories, and put it in place in your real life, what would it be and why?

Poldyvirag: I like Bad Brad’s brash confidence in “The Teaser Pony.” I believe I’d be in stronger control of my life if I had that not just in sex but generally.

Question: How long does it take for you to write a complete story? How does the process go?

Poldyvirag: It takes me forever. I usually begin with only a character and a promising fragment of a story in mind. The story develops in my mind as I write it. I almost never write a first draft in a single sitting. It’s not unusual for me to take 5-10 sittings to finish a 5,000-word first draft. Then, after the first draft, I keep nudging it along, expanding and deleting and replacing. In order for me to do this, I have to have several projects in the works at the same time. I’ll work on one story for awhile, have a cup of coffee, then pick up work on another one. I drink a lot of coffee.

Question: How do you come up with your story titles?

Poldyvirag: The story almost titles itself. Because I work on it for so many days, I have to call the Word document something. Often that something ends up either being or leading to the title. “Tit for Tat” started out as a simple seduction and then turned into a sexual revenge story. As soon as it became a revenge story, the title appeared.

Question: What is the hardest part of writing a story?

Poldyvirag: Ending it. In many of my stories, the true ending is the last male orgasm of the night. Everything after that tends to go downhill if I don’t put the brakes on.

Question: Have you ever done research for a part of a story you didn’t have any knowledge about or maybe for a sex scene?

Poldyvirag: Ms. Tees and I re-enacted the swimming pool sex scene in “Christy’s Seduction.” I love research. We need to do more.

Question: Do you have any secret stories you don’t want to publish for the public? Do you publish your stories on other sites besides EroticStories.com and if so, why? Have you ever been published on paper?

Poldyvirag: No secret stories. I began publishing erotica in Yahoo Groups because that was all I knew about. Nowadays I write erotica exclusively for ES. I’ve published mainstream and literary stories on paper.

Question: When you receive negative comments do you just ignore them, build from them, or let it put a negative image over the story itself, and let it hinder your writing?

Poldyvirag: If it’s from an eccentric or someone with a personal agenda, it just rolls off. The more rational the criticism, the more it tends to eat at me. I have had some helpful criticism, though. When I posted “Pool Party,” a reader sent me a suggestion for a revision. I liked the idea and sent the revision privately to the reader. I didn’t post it, but it’ll go online eventually as part of my Poldy the Younger series.

Reading Habits:

Question: Do you also enjoy reading erotic stories? Which categories do you enjoy the most? Do you like true stories or fantasies?

Poldyvirag: You bet I enjoy reading erotica, especially in Seduction. As for true stories or fantasies, how do you tell the difference? A good writer can present a fantasy as true and do it very convincingly. That’s nice for readers who are turned on by the idea that the events actually happened in real life. Is it always real world? Well, on this site the men are always hard and the women are always dripping wet and multi-orgasmic. And with all this indiscriminate and unprotected sex going on, no one ever gets an STD. Is that your real world?

I did one story about real-world sexual dysfunction. Readers stomped on it with both feet. What on earth possessed me to believe that a story about frigidity would be popular on an erotic stories site? Duh.

Question: Do you vote on other author's stories? How do you decide what score to give when you do?

Poldyvirag: For the authors on my Favorites list, I give every story a 10, whether it’s one of their best or not. The reason is purely selfish. I want to encourage them to write more, so I can have more to enjoy. For most of these authors’ stories, a 9 would amount to a negative vote because it would lower the story’s average. If they have a story averaging 9.65, it would take two 10 votes to repair the damage done by a single 9.

I give other stories I like a 10 or 9, based on how well I enjoyed the story not on technique or spelling or any of those things. I almost never give an 8 or lower. I consider those negative votes because they’re below the averages that readers have established for most stories on this site. If you give a story an 8 or lower, you’re saying to the author, “Don’t write any more stories like this, please.” If I don’t care much for a story, I won’t vote at all. Authors get enough punishment votes without my adding more damage.

Question: Do you send other author’s comments or feedback on their stories?

Poldyvirag: Yes, but not as often as I should. I think this is an important part of encouraging the writers I like to write more stories. I mean, they are writing these stories for ME.

Question: Do you have a favorite author on ES? What makes them your favorite?

Poldyvirag: I have 11 authors on my Favorites list. I like them because they do what they do very well and their fantasies tend to become my fantasies. I’ll just mention Gary Johns, HedbangerSA, Jack Handee, The Rake, and mistery thereby offending all the others. Sorry.

Sex Habits:

Question: Do you enjoy the visual side of erotica, as in porn movies or pictures? If so, do you have any favorites?

Poldyvirag: I’ll watch for a few minutes, but honestly I much prefer words to pictures here. I prefer the scene in my head to the scene on the screen.

Question: Do you remember the first pornography you ever saw? Tell us about it?

Poldyvirag: A well-worn magazine the kids were passing around. It showed (gasp) real penetration. I was too young to enjoy it fully, but it was a thrill all the same.

Question: Have you ever participated in erotic photography? If so, please tell us about it. If not, would you rather be the photographed or the photographer?

Poldyvirag: Believe me, you would not want to see me in an erotic photo. I’d rather be the photographer. Someone ought to write a fantasy about being a swimsuit photographer. I’d read it.

Question: What do you wear to bed?

Poldyvirag: Boxers or briefs. But I tend to get out of them at the earliest opportunity.

Question: Do your sex life and writing have any correlation with each other??

Poldyvirag: Writing a hot scene can leave me wanting something more substantial. Sometimes. But there’s no consistency or pattern to this.

Question: How would you rate your willingness to try new things in bed?

Poldyvirag: I’m moderately adventurous, but nothing to write home about. At least I’ve never written home about it.

Question: What’s the kinkiest thing you have done in your life?

Poldyvirag: When I was seven years old, I was walking my “girlfriend” home, and she dared me to sit on a cactus we were passing. I dropped my pants (stunning her) and sat on the cactus. That’s pretty kinky, isn’t it? My mother, who spent 20 minutes removing cactus spines, was not amused. I’ve often wondered whether that little girl has any hang-ups as an adult because she was once flashed by a weird seven-year-old. (By the way, that is not the last time I’ve made a fool of myself over a woman.)

Question:Do you have anyfantasies that you would like to fulfil?

Poldyvirag: On the morning I turn 64, I’d like to wake up and make love to Ms. Tees. Eight times.

Question: What is your opinion about sex toys? Do you have any toys yourself and if so, do you like to use them?

Poldyvirag: What are you talking about I AM a sex toy. Although there are times when I could use recharging.

Question: What do you think about solo sex?

Poldyvirag: Love it. When my SO is not available, it beats the hell out of doing crossword puzzles or watching TV.

Question: What are your favourite; and least favourite positions?

Poldyvirag: Favorites are missionary and cowgirl. I love the eye contact. My least favorite is reverse cowgirl. When my partner has her back turned on me, I get the feeling she’s looking for someone else to show up.

Question: Do you believe in one night stands?

Poldyvirag: Not usually. A one-night stand implies that a second night wasn’t worth the trouble.

Question: What makes someone sexy to you?

Poldyvirag: Attitude and openness. I created my ideal in Sue of “Sue’s Complaint.” I fell in love with that girl as I was writing her. She is extraordinarily open and honest, full of wide-eyed enthusiasm. I’m sure she is the reason the story was so successful.

Question: What is a major turn on for you during sex?

Poldyvirag: The unexpected. A butterfly kiss in the missionary position, for example. Or a surprise bit of pain (!).

Question: What is a major turn off for you during sex?

Poldyvirag: If either of us loses focus or intensity. I hate it when I suspect my lover is putting together tomorrow’s shopping list.

Question: Sex-talk. Do you like or dislike talking during sex?

Poldyvirag: Love it if it’s focused on the sex itself. It’s a way of fanning the flame. On the other hand, “I think I have a cramp in my foot” doesn’t do much for me.

Question: In bed or on the kitchen table?

Poldyvirag: I enjoy the unexpected once in a while, but nothing beats a bed for thorough exploration.

Question: What is your favourite or most memorable moment in bed?

Poldyvirag: The first time or two, even as awkward as it was. Nothing can prepare you for that incredible sensation, the pure intimacy of it.

And Last but not least...

Question:You are #54 on the “Top 100 favourite authors” list. How does it feel to know you have 87 people that have favorited you? **

Poldyvirag: It’s an awesome ego stroke. But it’s sobering as well. As I post a new story, I worry about whether I’m going to let those people down. Many of those loyal readers have become friends over the course of several email exchanges.

Question: You are #10 on the "Top 100 best scoring authors with more than 5 stories online, and an average vote higher than 9.0" lists with an average vote of 9.39. How does it feel make the list.? **

Poldyvirag: Poldyvirag: It’s nice but a little misleading. During the past year, I deleted two stories that I no longer took pride in. That sent my average up four points. If everyone did that, it would totally change those ratings. For example, if Thesandman trimmed his 80 stories down to his top-rated six, he’d shoot straight to the top of the chart. Same with JenniferO and others. I don’t believe it would be good for the site or for readers if authors did too much of this.

I tend to pay too much attention to the numbers. I’m trying to get over that. When I posted my latest story, I forced myself to wait as long as I could before I even looked at the numbers. I held out for a few hours.

Question: Is there anybody on this site, who you would like to see interviewed? Why?

Poldyvirag: Gary Johns because he’s been King of the Hill for as long as I can remember. The Rake because his stories cover some of the same territory I do but in a radically different way.

Question: Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of this interview and your fans? Now is your chance...

Poldyvirag: : I take a bit of flak over the fact that all of my stories involve cheating wives. Let me make it clear that I do not disparage marriage/monogamy in real life. Far from it. I don’t want to share my SO with other men, and I wouldn’t think of cheating on her.

But that’s real life. I write sexual fantasy. I use cheating wives in my stories because I believe a good seduction story requires the overcoming of strong resistance. A sex scene involving a married woman requires overcoming her conscience a conscience bolstered not only by her vows and her sense of loyalty but by society’s taboo against extramarital sex. It takes a build-up of increasingly hot scenes to generate the white heat necessary to melt that resistance. The Poldy the Younger story, “The Nice Guy or the Bad Boy,” has at least six stages of increasingly intimate and hot contact between the two lovers, until they’re so overwhelmed by lust that they take a foolish risk to get their genitals together. To me, building up to that loss of self-control is what makes an erotic story hot.

** Please note the statistics noted were current at the time of this interview was done in May. Statistics can change daily, even hourly, so these may not be the exact numbers that you will find on the site when you read this interview.
