He stared at her as she sat across the room laughing at something someone said to her. She shook her head and he watched the lights in the room glint off her hair. It was falling down her back now. His hands fisted to resist the urge to walk over there and bury his hands in it. To see if it was as soft and sleek as it looked. To see what noise she would make when he touched her finally.

With an irritated growl, he turned away and took a swig of his beer. Gotta stop watching her. We're supposed to be friends, dammit. He turned back just in time to see her reach up and rub her neck with a wince. That was enough. He slid through the crowd and into the couch behind her, bumping her a little.

She looked up and grinned when she realized it was him. "Hey you," she leaned in and brushed her lips against his cheek in a friendly greeting.

As she did, he grabbed the wine glass out of her hand and set it on the table. "I think I better put this somewhere safe." He turned to look at her again. "Your neck's bothering you again, isn't it?" She nodded. He reached up and brushed the hair over to one side and laid his palms on her neck. When she sighed at the warthm and scooted closer, he had to shift his weight to accomodate the sudden tightening in his jeans.
