Hitting the streets

They say that sometimes happiness is subjective to the time and place from which it is viewed from. At the age of 21 I had the misfortune of being homeless. I guess I didn't realise the extent of the problem until I lived through it, and realised that every country has its fair share of homeless people.

The public's perception of homeless people is usually, that they are a bunch of drunks and beggars, although in quite a few cases this perception is well wide of the mark. Sometimes life conspires against you, and if you lack the knowledge of where to get help, then this can compound the situation even further.

When I lost my Job, I also found a lack of sympathy from my landlord a killer too. Informing him that I would probably get state aid, my landlord informed me that he didn't take unemployed tenants, I would have to find myself another place to stay.

As I had no money for a deposit, and no one as a reference I was stuck, storing my stuff at a friends, I finally closed my flat door over, and in the process joined the ranks of the homeless.

Looking back I guess I was lucky, my first night on the streets was in the middle of the summer and at least it was warm and dry, my first ...
