Chapter 6: Victim #4

The Fisherman knew the cops were looking for him. He talked to people in the neighborhood where he worked and learned the cops were looking for a dark blue van and figured out that he had a penchant for blonde hair, blue eyed prostitutes. A couple of hookers even told him they were warned not to go with anyone in a dark van willing to pay extra for rougher sex. Meanwhile he walked invisibly among them, able to talk freely with them without anyone suspecting a thing.

He finished up installing a new toilet in one of Cream City Management's apartments. The older female tenant was so grateful for his quick work that she gave him a beer. He was drinking it in his van, working on some paperwork when he saw an unmarked cop car go by. He held his breath until they turned the corner and disappeared from view. Rather than take any chances, he finished the beer and drove away, hoping to avoid them and any other cops.

It was a pleasant day and he had the windows down on his van. The Fisherman enjoyed the noises of the street - the yelling, loud laughter, catcalls, the sound of heavy traffic, the clunk of dumpster lids banging shut. They were the sounds of chaos, an orchestra playing a symphony for a world filled with hopeless people in hopeless ...
