She gave me directions; it was just a few miles away, and shortly after noon, I was knocking on Mrs. Gomez-Whitcomb’s door.

“Let me show you the rest of this floor. Here’s another guest room, I use it as a study, and this guest room you could use it as your own study.

Finally, Beatrix led me to her bedroom. It was huge, with a king-size bed, and windows on three sides, looking out toward the ocean. “Now Adam, Louisa May and I had a long talk about you, she told me everything.”

“Everything?”

“Everything.”

I blushed, thinking about what Mrs. Aldrich might have told this stranger.

“I have another proposal for you. If you made this your bedroom, of course, I wouldn’t charge you anything. Louisa May says you have everything in a young man I could want, and if you’ll allow me to I can show you some of the perks of sleeping with me.”

This was not turning out the way I expected. While I stood there in shock, Beatrix Gomez-Whitcomb was on her knees unbuckling my pants.
