Wendy stood outside the back door of the car and coaxed Todd in. Tommy was already in, sitting on the lap of a ten-year-old girl. With Todd in, a seven-year-old boy stepped in. The woman in the driver's seat turned back and told him, "Keep Tommy in place, Drew."

"Okay, Mom," he said as Wendy closed the door firmly.

She stepped forward to the driver's seat and said, "Thanks, Julie." She handed her three dollar bills and said, "This should cover my share."

"Don't worry about it. You can take 'em next month." Julie handed the bills back. Wendy grasped them and stood next to the car as Julie pressed down on the button to roll the windows up.

Julie backed her car out of the driveway and drove out of sight. Wendy went to the back door of her house and looked up. In the distance she saw a familiar figure. Sam was sitting on the roof nailing some shingles on. She went into the house, came back out with her cell phone and punched some keys.
