I'd never been to the Netherlands before, but the honor of being among the nominees for the inaugural ESsie Awards convinced me I should do it. PleasureKitten and Bisexualpixee were seated to my left and right, and Just Plain Bob sat across from me. I was up for New Author of the Year, Best Straight Seduction Story and Best Straight Series of Five or More Parts. I had my tux on because I knew the Penthouse Channel was airing the awards on tape delay. As it turned out, I was overdressed compared to other male nominees, but I heard later that the female nominees were impressed.

After a couple hours, I had made all the small talk I could with the lady writers, and Bob hadn't returned after his win in the Straight Adultery category. After the tribute to Amanda, Bob was at the lectern, joined by MistyNiteBiter. They read a prepared joke that was so awful that I won't burden the reader with it, and then Bob said, "The nominees for Best Straight Series of Five or More Parts are: NYFirebird, 'High School Reunion.'"

Misty continued, "Miltone, 'A Little Game of Murder.'" ...
