Heather printed out directions to her apartment off her computer and handed them to me. (Her computer read the names of files through the speakers, if you're curious about that sort of thing.)

I found her place so easily that I had ten minutes to spare. I sat in my car for a few minutes in the parking lot just to give her time to be ready. I wore a leather jacket over my collared T-shirt and unfaded jeans so I wouldn't look too eager or too shabby. I knocked on her door, and she opened it before I could knock a third time. "Come in, honey," she told me. It had only been three days since our date, and she was already calling me "Honey." It felt so right to hear her say it. I entered the front door and took off my jacket. I took her hand and put the collar in the palm. She turned to me and kissed me. "I'll be right back. Have a seat at the table," she told me.

I could see her kitchen from where I stood. I sat in the chair next to the one closest to me. When Heather returned, she could tell where I was, and she took the chair that I had passed. "Nice place," I told her.

"I get by," she said. "I ordered Chinese for us. I timed it so it should get here pretty soon."

"So you don't want to go out?" I asked.
