It was six o'clock. I'd just watched our minor-league baseball team win a day game and I was headed toward the bus stop. The panels on the side of the shelter usually have advertisements in them. On this particular Saturday, I couldn't see any of the text, but I caught a brief glimpse of the model's silhouette, and she was a knockout. I jammed my foot against a bump in the sidewalk where a tree root had pushed the cement up. I didn't fall, but when I looked up, I realized that there was no poster at the bus stop.
