Joe and I have been friends since the sixth grade, and we both go to the college that's just in the next town. He and I and a bunch of other seniors and juniors were having a party. My job was to get the keg, which I did on Tuesday. Joe had rented the pavilion at the county park, so he had me bring the keg to his house. I rang his doorbell at 6:30 the same day I got it. His red-headed sister Susie answered the door. "Hi, Paul!" she said. "What's up?"

"Joe told me to bring the keg by," I answered. "We're having a party on Thursday."

Joe had had to miss our last party a couple weeks before because of Susie's birthday party. She had turned eighteen. "He just left for work," she said. "Didn't he tell you?"

"Damn it," I said. "He told me 5:30, but I got confused because the party's at 6:30."

"Well, you can bring it inside," she said.
