The phone woke me. I looked at the clock and it was five in the morning. That could mean only one thing. I picked up the phone and answered, "Hello?"

"Hi, Bobby, it's Stan. Are you available today?"

Switching my hours from day to evening had two benefits. It paid more per hour, and it left my days open to substitute-teach, which I really enjoyed.
