I just got home from a business dinner with my husband. Every year, his company holds a big black-tie affair where all the big-wigs attend and parade around, preening about the company's success. They even have a little award ceremony that makes a high school presentation look like the Grammy's! In truth, I actually enjoy those meetings, since I rarely have an opportunity to dress up in formal attire. It gives me a chance to buy a new outfit and strut my own stuff! I'm even willing to endure all the boring executives in order to show off my fashion prowess.

This year, though, was a little different. In the 16 years I've been attending the company parties, I'd never had such a remarkable experience. And since my husband is now passed out on the couch, drunk, I figured I'd take a few minutes to relate my newfound liberation.

First, though, the obligatory background. My husband, Patrick, is 58 years old and I'm 54. We've been married just over 35 years and, aside from the normal rocks, it has been great. We have three wonderful children who all now have spouses of their own and eight amazing grandchildren.

I have raven black hair (all natural, thank you!) and I typically keep it straight and between shoulder and mid-back length in the latest styles. My brown eyes aren't "striking" like some of the women I read ...
