Chapter 5: The Sixth Victim

The call came in at 7:42 a.m. A truck driver on his way to Lake St. Croix Beach on Highway 18 saw the body from the cab of his truck. He stopped, backed up and pulled into the Bolles Mill Wayside thinking it was a deer hit by a car. It turned out to be a woman's naked body posed like a crucifix with arms outstretched, her legs straight and close together. She was badly beaten, cut, and stabbed, obviously dead. Horrified, he ran back to his truck and called 9-1-1 on his cell phone.

A Washington County sheriff's deputy was the first to respond, saw how the body was positioned, and notified the Slasher Task Force.

The task force was made up of representatives from various law enforcement agencies and headed by the local FBI office since the Slasher's victims' bodies were found in various jurisdictions in two states. After the third murder, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was consulted by local law enforcement. The three victims were found in different Minnesota counties. The fourth victim was from and found in Prescott, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation handled the initial investigation until they realized their victim was probably killed by the same man who killed three women in Minnesota.
